Fordham’s Division of Mission Integration and Ministry is taking a delegation of 20 members of the Fordham University community to join thousands of other committed, passionate individuals in attending the annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ) held in Washington DC every fall. The Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice is being held this year on October 23 and 24, 2022 and the theme this year is “Rooted and Renewing”. This annual gathering is for members of the Ignatian family (those affiliated with both Jesuit institutions and the larger Catholic Church) who have a mission to gather in the context of social justice and solidarity to learn, reflect, pray, network, and advocate together. It is a place where people are empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked.
Now in its 25th year, IFTJ has a rich history rooted in honoring the Jesuits and their companions who were martyred in El Salvador in 1989.
In addition to participating in IFTJ and meeting students from across the country and participating in workshops and prayer services dedicated to implementing justice through our faith, we are excited to announce that one of our own students and delegation members, Ben Reilly, FCRH 23, has been selected to lead a workshop. Ben will present at workshop on a prayer book that he has helped develop, titled, “Queer Prayer at Fordham”. Ben has been working diligently over the past year on the project and has compiled this book which he has assembled over 30+ Fordham students, faculty, staff and alumni to contribute prayers that are important to them and reflections (or re-readings) of prayers through a queer lens for the prayer book. We are extremely excited that Ben has been selected to be one of a small group of students selected to lead a workshop at IFTJ.
The total cost of the trip is $7,500 for 20 people, which is approximately $375.00 per participant. We are asking each student to do individual fundraising within his/her family and community. We are also actively working to raise money as a group on campus.
IFTJ has served to transform the hearts and minds of many of our Fordham students, strengthening their conviction to live the Jesuit ideal of being men and women for and with others. Any financial support you could offer would be immensely appreciated!
