Global Outreach (GO!) is a student-run program that sends cultural immersion and service projects to locations, domestically and internationally, to learn about social justice issues that are affecting the communities they enter. In the weeks leading up to the project, teams spend time intentionally exploring GO!’s four pillars-- community, simple living, spirituality, and social justice-- and how it relates to not only our own formation process but how we approach entering these new communities.
Our team is excitedly preparing to go to Detroit, Michigan to work with Motown Mission, a faith-based organization dedicated to economic disaster recovery work within the area. The team will work at various project sites focused on home repair and construction, interacting with the homeless, and providing a helping hand to the community wherever it is needed. The team will also meet and interact with many citizens of Detroit and get to know the hardships they face with the economic downfall of the major industries within the city. Nightly speakers will clue the team into what day to day life is like in the community.
