Fordham University’s Global Outreach (GO!) program gives students the opportunity to step outside the classroom, learn from different communities, and put Fordham’s Jesuit values of social justice and solidarity into practice. This January, the GO! Arizona team will travel to Nogales, Arizona, to continue Fordham’s ongoing partnership with the Kino Border Initiative (KBI), a Jesuit organization working toward a more humane, just, and dignified approach to migration.
KBI supports migrants through direct humanitarian assistance, education, and advocacy. Through this experience, we hope to learn directly from the people and communities affected by migration, listen to their stories, and better understand the realities of life along the U.S. - Mexico border. We are especially excited to learn from KBI’s work and the relationships it has built over the years, recognizing that migration is not just a political issue, but something that affects real people, families, and communities.
For many of our participants, this will be their first GO! experience, and they chose Arizona because they genuinely care about KBI’s mission and want to engage more deeply with the work being done at the border. We are preparing through weekly formation meetings, where we reflect on the purpose of this experience and how we can approach it with openness, respect, and a willingness to learn.
We are working toward a fundraising goal of $5,000, with donations helping cover trip expenses and make participation possible for students who might otherwise be unable to join us. Any contribution, no matter the amount, means so much to our team and helps make this experience possible. Thank you for supporting us as we continue Fordham’s partnership with Kino Border Initiative, and work toward a deeper understanding of migration, human dignity, and solidarity.
